Killens looks forward to Priddy Fair 2008

July 10th, 2008

One of England’s oldest sheep fairs will be staged at Priddy on the Mendips on Wednesday 20th August and Killens looks forward to being involved in this historic fair.

According to tradition, Priddy Fair moved to the village in 1348 due to Black Death and it has been held continuously since apart from the foot and mouth years of 2001 and 2007.

Organised by a village Committee, in addition to the sheep and ‘country artefact’ auctions, there are plenty of tradestands with demonstrations being held during the day. There is also the horse field where travellers sell their horses and wares.

This year, Killens will be conducting the auctions in association with Greenslade Taylor Hunt who recently opened the Sedgemoor Auction Centre. Tom Killen stated; “It is great to have the experienced team from Greenslade Taylor Hunt on-board this year and hopefully their involvement will encourage this special Fair to flourish for subsequent years.”
